Adding and Customizing Overlays in Playable Ads

Enhance your playable ads with interactive overlays in PlayableMaker’s Video Editor. This guide explains how to add Breaks, End Screens, and Permanent Overlays, each with customizable actions like sprites, audio, and backgrounds, for a more engaging user experience.

1. After filling in the General Properties in the Video Editor, let's move on to OVERLAYS.

Click "+" to add an overlay (see the picture). There are 3 types:
Break, End screen, Permanent overlay.

Each overlay has a start time.
Tip: move the pointer on the progress bar under the video screen to a wished position and then add the start of a Break or a Permanent overlay.

Each overlay can contain:

  • Sprites (for example: button images, hand images, logos, etc.);
  • Audio sounds;
  • Background.

Tip: a sprite with a "Resume video" action must be added to the Break so the video can be resumed after the interaction.

2. TYPES OF OVERLAYS:

  1. Add Break - the Break stops the video and waits until the user interaction happens through a sprite action. The default action for each added sprite into Break is "Resume video".

    For example: video stops at the Break, you move a sprite - a pounding hand pointer and after then the video resumes.

    Tip: to see the interaction happen, play the video in the preview mode.

  2. Add End screen - the End screen appears at the end of the video (couple of milliseconds before the end). It is recommended to add a sprite with a call-to -action (CTA).

    For example: a "Download button" that opens the URL for a AppStore/Google Play.
    Tip: the End screen starting point is set automatically but can be changed.

  3. Permanent overlay - the Permanent overlay is displayed during a specified time frame.

    For example: after a correct move/answer you display a sprite - a thumb up picture, for a 3 seconds.
    Tip: the sprite can be displayed even during the whole video, e.g. permanently. You can also set an action that is triggered after clicking on the sprite such as opening Store URL.

DIFFERENCES AMONG OVERLAYS - Short Summary:

Break - to pause the video and an interaction with a sprite is needed to resume it;

End screen - End screen of the ad with a CTA button (a sprite);

Permanent overlay - a sprite is displayed within defined time-frame within the video.
